Trina TurkInspired by the architecture and landscape of California, Trina Turk’s collection features sophisticated pieces that are wearable, modern and incorporates the best of American sportswear. Trina is known for her signature prints, amazing pant fit, and modern classic silhouettes. Born in California and raised there as well as Washington, Trina knew from a young age that she wanted to design clothing professionally. At the age of 11 her mother had taught her how to sew, later leading her to study apparel at the University of Washington. Her first job was with a Seattle based sportswear manufacturer called Britannia Jeans, later on moving to Los Angeles where she worked at Ocean Pacific designing surf wear. Having designed for mostly juniors, Trina decided to expand her horizons by launching her own business with her husband Jonathan Skow, photographer and former stylist. Trina Turk was established in 1995 and was sold in stores like Barney’s New York, Fred Segal, and Saks Fifth Avenue, where her clothing was a success. Trina has since opened many stores on both the East and West coast. Her flagship store is situated in Los Angeles, where the store is decorated in multiple shades of pink. She opened her first boutique in Palms Spring, California in March of 2002 in a desert modernist building designed by Albert Frey. Trina Turk New York opened in December 2006, where she brightened up the meatpacking district with her colorful store. She has since teamed up with hosiery line, Hue, as a guest designer and with Schumacher, a home furnishing manufacturer, in creating a printed fabric collection for homes.
