Jason MatloFrom a young age, Jason displayed incredible artistic talent. After being encouraged by his family to pursue a career in the arts, he entered university on a scholarship for fine arts, where the emphasis of his work was fashion and design. Upon completing his studies in 1998, Jason was invited to compete in the prestigious Smirnoff fashion awards competition, where the industry honored him with Designer of the Year. After which he went on to represent Canada at the International Competition in Berlin, Germany. The launch of his first ready to wear collection in Spring 2004 generated considerable enthusiasm within the fashion community. A very successful showing at the Toronto Fashion Incubator press brunch led to many positive reviews, including articles in Fashion magazine, Style, Lou Lou, Fare and Nuvo magazine. That same fall, Jason was named Designer of the Year in the Georgia Straight, Vancouver’s premiere arts and entertainment weekly. Jason was recently featured on ET Canada for a dress that he created for Canadian actress Camille Sullivan for the red carpet at the Gemini Awards in Toronto, and he received best dressed on the red carpet at the Leo Awards for a creation that he made for Canadian Actress Gabrielle Miller which was featured in Hello Canada Magazine July 28th edition. Jason then went on to participate in the Life Network reality television show Making it Big in New York. Jason’s highlight from winning the show was the opportunity to have his Spring/Summer 2005 collection displayed in the window of Saks Fifth Avenue. His skillfully finished dress caught the eye of Saks Fifth Avenue Senior Fashion Director Michael Fink along with the director of The Kaplan Thaler Group, one of the hottest and fastest growing advertising firms in New York. Extremely impressed with Jason’s ability, they both felt that it was time to take the Jason Matlo brand to an international audience. Jason’s gowns have graced the red carpet of the Academy Awards, Gemini Awards, the Leo Awards, the Emmy’s and The Teen Choice Awards. He has become a favorite among celebrities, as his designs are unique, sexy and incredibly flattering to the female form. Jason has dressed celebrities from the United States and Canada, such as Sara Ramirez (Grey’s Anatomy), Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3), R & B Singer Mya, Susan Lucci (all My Children), Gabrielle Miller (Corner Gas), Camille Sullivan (Intelligence) and the cast of all my children. Jason’s innate sense of the modern women has allowed him to be able to take his design concepts to new heights each season.
